Some GODL-India to review

I am here with a request to the reviewers/admins to kindly review some GODL-India files. Some of these are used on multiple wiki projects. Everyone knows the backlog of GODL-India. So this is the only way. The list obviously looks long, mainly bcoz of multiple crops.

Please review all of these so that my unreviewed upload backlog and some uploads from others that I have fixed is cleared. Thank You Again In Advance. ShaanSenguptaTalk 16:10, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Sikander, @Gabldotink and @C1K98V Just a gentle reminder. Will you be doing some more reviews? ShaanSenguptaTalk 15:39, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please unprotect or reduce the protection level for Template:PD-USGov-DOC-Census/lang so editors can add translations. Eran (talk) 08:26, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Non-translation “translations” on Commons:FAQ/bn

Commons:FAQ/bn is seemingly 99% translated, but in fact many of these “translations” are just copies of the English texts. This causes several issues:

  • Readers who look at the translation percentage think that they can read the page without knowing English, but this isn’t true;
  • Readers using accessibility software like screenreaders don’t get appropriate markup, since the Translate extension thinks these parts of the text are translated;
  • When a part of the text changes in English, it doesn’t get updated on the translation page because the extension thinks the translation, albeit outdated, is still more useful for readers than the English original (which would be true if it really was a translation, but not in this case).

Of course, the best solution would be actually translating those texts, but in case no Bangla speaker volunteers for that, at least the non-translation “translations” should be deleted. To do so, go to https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Translate&group=page-Commons%3AFAQ&action=page&language=bn, and for each row where the right (translation) column contains obviously English text:

  • click anywhere on the row;
  • click on the unit name (e.g. Translations:Commons:FAQ/4/bn);
  • click on History;
  • now you’re on the page history of a wiki page, just delete it like any other wiki page. You may want to check the page history first, in case it previously had a proper translation, although none of the few I checked had.

Thanks in advance! —Tacsipacsi (talk) 09:36, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ping @Moheen who created these non-translations. GPSLeo (talk) 16:31, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I know that. But there are always lots of things I have to do. I will shortly translate the remaining. Thanks for notifying me. ~Moheen (keep talking) 17:10, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
But why do you copy past the text? When viewing the page there will be the English text anyways if there is no translation. GPSLeo (talk) 17:31, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Help reverting a bad edit

I accidentally did a few bad structured data edits in an attempt to correct the depictions of a few images. I tried to undo the changes myself but was blocked by the abuse filter [ ref ]. So, it would be great if you could help with reverting those edits. Here's the list of changes:

Note: The MultiChillBot re-added the most of the structured data for the first one but the caption / image type still seem removed as far as I noticed. So, it might be better to revert the edit 🙂.

PS: To be honest, it is not actually an intentional bad edit. The Commons Android app has a bug that results in such bad edits when trying to edit depictions [ref] Kaartic [talk] 12:31, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Protection policy

Do you have a policy or guideline that stipulates whether a file should be protected based on a specified number of uses it has? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:52, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@MSGJ: Please see Commons:Protection policy.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 13:04, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I read that before coming here, and it does not answer my question — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 13:09, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
